State of Iowa Employee

GSecureMail uses two methods to determine whether or not email should be encrypted: content scanning and keyword triggering.

Content Scanning:

Emails meeting specified policies are encrypted transparently without requiring any additional action on your part when you send an email from your State issued Google Mail account. The content of all email messages sent, including subject line, message body and attachments is scanned and compared against the policies we have implemented. These policies help us systematically identify and flag potentially sensitive information for encryption.

Keyword Triggered:

To send an encrypted email, simply enter either of the specific keywords (gSecureMail, SecureMail) in the subject of your email message. The specific keywords are not case sensitive. When the subject of your message includes any of these keywords, gSecureMail will encrypt the content before it is sent. With keyword triggered encryption, you are responsible for identifying sensitive information within the body and attachments of your email, and then typing that keyword within the subject line of the email.
